The ELiMS Counter Station (CS) is a staff assisted station. At this station, staff are able to borrow and return on behalf of the customer. At the same time, it can sort or separate material according to their categories. For new material, this station can program information into the tag. It also has a feature to check, activate or de-activate the security status of the tag inside the material.

 Borrow
|
|
The CS is configurable to recognise a customer by using the following methods :
|

To borrow an item, the customer passes their membership card and library items to the staff. Staff select the borrow function and scans in the membership card. The staff then places the item(s) onto the "pad" in front of the station. The station captures the electronic signature of the item instantaneously, and sends it to the Library Management System (LMS).
Once the LMS approves the transaction, the station resets the security status in the tag and allows the item to be taken out through the security gates without raising an alarm. The station issues a receipt, detailing the borrower's identity, date and time of the transaction, the items borrowed and their due dates, for the customer.

Return
|

To return an item, staff select the return function. Staff places the item onto the "pad" of the station. The station captures the electronic signature and sends it to the LMS for loan cancellation. Once confirmed, the station sets the security status of the tag and the item cannot be taken out without borrowing. The user can request a receipt.

Sort
|
|
|
Sorting of items using the sorting option in CS is very simple. Staff select this function from the menu. They place an item onto the "pad" and the system immediately displays which category or compartment the item belongs to. The system literally takes away the stress and strain associated with time spent on item sorting. While the item is being scanned, the RFID tag is automatically "armed" so that the item is ready to be returned to the shelf. Due to the seamless link with the LMS, staff will be prompted immediately if there are special instructions relating to the item being sorted, e.g. the item has been reserved by a customer or the item belongs to other branches.

Tagging
|

|
This module allows new library items or bar code based old library items to be converted into an RFID item. For old library items, staff scan the bar code and the station displays the details of the item. After which, the station sends the information into the tag. The station will also do a read back to verify that the content is correct. If the content is different, it prompts the user to program again. If there is already data in the tag, then it will ask for confirmation to overwrite. For new material, staff can input the item number using the keyboard.

Arm / Disarm
|
|
|
This module allows staff to check, activate or de-activate the security status of the library item. Once the item is placed onto the "pad", staff can check the security status of the library item. At the same time, it can toggle between the two states, arm or disarm.
